A WOMAN has been taken to hospital following a fear for welfare incident on the Blackbird Leys bridge this afternoon.

The road was briefly closed after emergency services were called to the bridge from Barns Road to Blackbird Leys.

Thames Valley Police spokesman Jack Abell said: "Officers were called at 12.38pm today following reports of a fear for welfare incident in Barns Road, Blackbird Leys.

"Officers attended the scene along with the ambulance service and road closures were put in place.

"The ambulance service has taken a woman to hospital for treatment, and road closures at the scene have now been lifted."

An eyewitness in heavy traffic she had seen a person on the bridge who appeared to be threatening to jump.

While the incident was ongoing South Central Ambulance Service spokesman David Gallagher said: "There is a person on the bridge at Blackbird Leys that police are concerned about and trying to get down.

"We were called at 12.42pm and we have an ambulance on standby."
