A TRANSPORT campaigner has rubbished claims that Oxford is one of the worst cities for train station service in the country, with just one.
Data analysis ranked Oxford among the ten worst cities served based on their amount of stations.
Oxford Parkway Station was not included as it is outside the city limits.
But transport campaigner Hugh Jaeger said the figure should include Oxford Parkway, which serves rail passengers often from North Oxford.
He said: "Just taking the number of people divided by the stations tells you one thing but not much - it is a snapshot.
"A bit more detail would show the situation in Oxford, although it could be better, is actually at a good starting place.
"For the two most northerly wards in Oxford, Oxford Parkway is nearer than the central Oxford Station and is doing a very good job.
"Within the first four months of opening it had welcomed 100,000 passengers and these passenger numbers are growing week by week."
The figures showed that Leicester was the worst city for train station provision, with just one to serve 342,627 people.
Mr Jaeger does believe that Oxford does deserve more rail stations and spoke of Chiltern Railways' plans to build two more in the future.
