A PHYSIO whizz who nurtures heart surgery patients to health will run a half marathon in their honour.

Dane Jenner will tackle a 21-mile track at Blenheim Palace to raise money for research that could prevent the "devastation" inflicted by heart problems.

The 26-year-old said: "It’s my way of walking a mile in my patients' shoes. For some of them, a trip to the shops can be exhausting.

"Increasing fitness levels comes harder to heart failure patients and those recovering from heart surgery, which is why cardiac rehab and physiotherapy is so important."

The Abingdon resident, who was inspired by his work as a physiotherapy assistant at the Oxford Heart Centre, will run the race on October 2 to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

He added: "To be able to raise money for a cause so close to my heart and my career makes it even more worthwhile, however much I struggle on the day. The beautiful scenery will definitely be a much-needed distraction.

"It’s incredible that the BHF is funding so much research into heart disease, but until the day finally comes where we can end its devastation, I want to help make sure those suffering can get back on their feet as quickly as possible and live their lives to the fullest."

The country house in Woodstock will also host 10k and 2k runs on the same day, also in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
