A NEW A34 safety campaign group will hold its first meeting tonight one week after the latest devastating fatal collision.

The A34 Action Group will host its inaugural session at West Ilsley Village Hall, just a few miles from where Wednesday's crash happened.

The meeting, starting at 8pm, aims to give residents the chance to come up with ways that road safety could be improved in the notorious black spot.

Convener Cathryn Millward said: "We have organised this meeting for local people who use the road to come up with ways to make ourselves heard with the relevant authorities and organisations."

Mrs Millward, who helps her husband run the Crown and Horns pub in East Ilsley, said people in the villages had to watch week after week as more accidents happened on the A34 nearby.

The mum-of-one said: "Obviously living in East Ilsley everyone complains about the state of the road and gets upset when there is an accident.

"There is a lot of talk about it anyway but since last Wednesday everyone was saying something needs to be done, this is too much.

"We want to get as many people together tonight as possible to show support and get as many local authorities and MPs and police who may be able to help us.

"I think a full review needs to be done of the route to see what is happening and what the problems are."

Tracy Houghton ad her sons Ethan, 13, Josh 11, and her partner's 11-year-old daughter Amiee Goldsmith were killed in the eight-vehicle pile up at East Isley on Wednesday.

Ms Houghton's partner Mark Goldsmith and his 13-year-old son Jake were following behind in another car and suffered minor injuries.

Twelve people were injured in total and police arrested a 30-year-old man from Andover on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
