PLANS have been revealed for a new 500-person office at Oxford Science Park.

The "state-of-the-art" building would have 61,500sqft of space over four storeys, as well as a roof terrace.

It would occupy plot 12 of the science park, in Edmund Halley Road, off Grenoble Road, where 2,400 people already work for science and technology companies including Tripadvisor, Nominet, OxSonics and Oxford BioMedica.

There would be parking space for 203 cars.

The new building is the first to be proposed there since Magdalen College acquired the whole of the park - up from a 50 per cent stake - in January.

At the time it announced plans for more than 300,000 sq ft of extra office and laboratory space to be built over the next seven years, to help address a shortage of office space in the city.

Oxford Science Park managing director Piers Scrimshaw-Wright said: "The science park was established 25 years ago as a business community to support discovery, innovation and entrepreneurship.

"Today, companies are thriving here."

He added: "With plot 12 we have an opportunity to build the next logical and natural expansion to the park."

Scott Harkness, head of commercial at letting agent Carter Jonas, said the new building would be designed to focus on the "wellbeing of employees and landscaping".

He said: "Currently there is no 'Grade A' office space available to rent in Oxford.

"Plot 12 will answer the continuing demand for office and laboratory space from those global companies looking for an exceptional headquarters building in Oxford, and those SMEs that are looking for new, contemporary space to support their growth strategies."
