A MAN has been arrested after a fight at The Blackbird pub in Blackbird Leys, Oxford.

It happened between about 9.30pm and 9.50pm on Friday.

During the fight a 35-year-old man sustained a cut to his head and is currently being treated at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

His condition is stable and he will be kept in hospital overnight.

Thames Valley Police spokesman James Williams said police believe the victim had been punched.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and has been bailed until September 28.

Investigating officer Det Sgt Tony Maddison of Force CID said: “I am appealing to anyone who saw or heard anything inside or outside the Blackbird pub last night.

"We believe that the fight may have started inside the pub and then moved outside."

South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman Michelle Archer said crews had been called to the pub on the corner of Moorbank and Blackbird Leys Road at 9.50pm to reports of an assault.

She added: "One patient was assessed and treated at the scene and taken to the John Radcliffe hospital."

This morning a passer-by reported seeing what he believed were forensics officers taking photographs of a bag on the front gate.

Another said the pub had been cordoned off until about 11am today.

The Blackbird is open as normal today.

Moorbank resident Peter Morgan, who is retired, said he heard shouting at 11pm and was woken again at 1am.

The 65-year-old added: "There was a lot of noise, then it all went quiet.

"This morning when I walked my dog there was a van and a police car parked outside the pub and they had cordoned it off.

"There was one chap in a white outfit, he looked like forensics, picking something up and putting it into a large brown paper bag.

"It was very unusual. I've lived here 10 years but I've never had any trouble from the pub."

Anyone who was near The Blackbird last night or has any information about the incident is asked to call police via 101.
