RAMBLERS enjoyed an incredible 184 mile walking relay to celebrate 20 years since the creation of the Thames Path National Trail.

The baton was passed between the walkers as they travelled along the entire length of the trail and then on to the Thames Path Extension to Crayford Marshes.

The trail manager Steven Tabbitt said: "This anniversary relay walk in partnership with The Ramblers provided a great opportunity to bring together organisations who value what the trail brings to their area and those many individuals who enjoy walking the Thames Path."

This week national chairman of the trail Steve Good received the baton from county council leader Ian Hudspeth, marking the completion of the final leg of the 184 mile journey into Crayford Marshes in London.

The relay began on July 9 in the Cotswolds and finished on July 24 before the two leaders met in Eynsham to officially mark the end of the trail with a special ceremony on Wednesday.

Named as one of the top city hikes in the world, the trail passes through villages in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire and then through historic cities such as Windsor and Oxford before finishing up in the capital.

It is the only National Trail that follows a river, with almost continuous access to the river bank.

The path has over the past two decades provided enjoyment for recreation, health, leisure, and in some places, for commuting.
