POLICE have issued a fresh appeal for information this morning after a fatal car crash in Oxford yesterday.

At about 2.40am a blue Volvo S60 was travelling towards Cowley on the B480 Garsington Road.

The car left the road, went over the roundabout at Oxford Business Park South, crashed into a hedge and caught fire.

The fire service was called to extinguish the fire but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance crews. He has yet to be identified.

Investigating officer PC Julia Stroud of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit in Bicester said: “I need the public’s help to piece together what happened during this collision.

"If you saw the Volvo before the collision, the collision itself or have any other information about the collision please contact police as soon as possible.

“The easiest way to contact us is by visiting your nearest police station or by calling 101 and quoting reference number 113 (25/7)."

The road reopened both ways at about 7.30am yesterday morning. Debris could still be seen on the roundabout outside Oxford Business Park and a part of a bush on the edge of the carriageway was burnt away.

A member of staff at the Longwall Beefeater restaurant, in Garsington Road, said he had encountered the road closure while trying to get to work.

He added: "It's all cordoned off and that's all you can really see at the moment.

"I followed the BMW guys to get to work."
