FLARES, fros and frilly shirts will help one team of strollers on a mission to raise £10,000 to support people with terminal illnesses.

A team from Bridge House Care Home in Abingdon will be pounding the pavement with hundreds of others on Saturday for the Sobell House Moonlight stroll.

More than 500 fundraisers will be dressed head to toe in 70s-themed costumes to raise funds for the charity which provides palliative care to terminally ill patients in Oxfordshire.

The 12-strong team at Bridge House have not held back with bright colours, bold patterns and big flowers and pledged to raise £1,000 for the walk.

Team member Suzanna Hammond said: "Many of our residents have been brilliantly supported by the specialist team from Sobell House to ensure that we have everything in place for them at the end of life.

"Bridge House has pledged to raise over £10,000 in the next four years for the hospice. This walk is part of our pledge and Bridge House is aiming to raise £1000 from it.

"The work they do and the difference they make to people who are at the end of their lives is incredible."

Ms Hammond will be joined by Shamla Ram, Katie Marshall, Chantelle Meritt, Michael Stratford, Linda Clack, plus three relatives of care home residents and three staff friends.

The team have so far pulled in more than £550 and will help mark the Moonlight Stroll's tenth year.

This time also celebrates 40 years since Sobell House, based at the Churchill Hospital, was started in 1976.

Ms Hammond added: "The specialist Sobell nurses work with the team at Bridge House and together we strive to make each moment truly matter for both residents and their loved ones.

"The Sobell team help provide family support and also give reassurance to us that we are doing everything in the best possible way with end of life care.

"That is why we have chosen Sobell House as our Charity of the Year and have pledged to raise funds for them to help them continue their invaluable work."

The fundraisers at Sobell House are pulling together the final preparations for Saturday ahead of the 10.30pm event.

Strollers will make their way through the streets of Oxford under the stars through the early hours of the morning.

Fundraisers can still sign up right until the event
