WANTED: 60 volunteers to walk papier-mâché dogs at this weekend's Cowley Road Carnival.

Irish artist Tom Campbell has painstakingly created 90 of the pulped paper pups and now needs a hand taking them for slightly wooden walkies through the crowds on Sunday.

The wacky walk is aiming to raise awareness for mental health charity Oxfordshire Mind and was inspired after Mr Campbell discovered his brother, who has mental health issues, living in Oxford after he had been missing for ten years.

Mr Campbell, who usually lives in Cork, explained: "The reason I'm in Oxford is that my brother turned up here.

"I came to support him, and since then he has been offered a Mind flat, so I contacted Mind at the Mill arts centre on Cowley Road and suggested the project, having done something similar in Cork.

"The main idea was to take the dogs out on a walk along the Cowley Road as it would be fun to see group of dogs on the street."

Mr Campbell and his brother made the first ten dogs between them over Christmas.

Since then about 70 people have been involved through the Mill arts centre and Mr Campbell's studio in Magdalen Road.

Anyone who would like to help take the paper dogs for a walk should turn up at the Mill centre at 46 Cowley Road at 11.30am this Sunday.

Anyone who would like to buy a dog can call the Mill on 01865 263210 or email city@oxfordshiremind.org.uk
