MORE THAN 800 people will parade along Cowley Road in this year's carnival procession including pupil from St Barnabas Primary School.

This year the Cowley Road carnival theme is All the World's A Stage to commemorate playwright William Shakespeare.

The pupils at St Barnabas have taken on The Tempest and have created an artistic boat with a twist.

Pupil Cissy Wharton, 10, said: "All of the classes, Year 3 to Year 6, made the boat.

"It was really hard because we had to make the boat and some fish to go on the bottom."

The procession will start by the Music Box at The Plain on Cowley Road at 2pm on Sunday, July 10, with the carnival starting from midday.

Headteacher Fiona Hawkins said: "Year 5 at St Barnabas Primary School have been learning The Tempest and have made a boat out of bits of plastic bags.

"We are an eco-school so our boat can be recycled.

"We also want to make the point that carrier bags damage wildlife when they are washed up on islands all over the World and so please recycle them.

"We have not joined the carnival before and can't wait."

There will be 37 groups and around 800 people involved in the procession plus tens of thousands of revellers heading along to one of the county's biggest street party events in the calendar.
