OXFORD UNITED fans are hoping the club's eagerly-anticipated new kit will live long in the memory with another successful season.

The home shirt - expected to replicate a classic kit from the past - will be revealed on Monday and Yellows fans have been sharing their favourite retro numbers from days gone by.

For the second year running, the League One club held discussions with fans over what kit they wanted to see their team run out in at the Kassam Stadium.

Paul Randall, who goes to most home games with his son Lucas, said everyone had a soft spot for the kits which have brought the club success.

The 50-year-old, from Blackbird Leys, said: "I actually really liked last season's kit and it's one of my favourites - it brought back memories of 1986 and we had a great season again.

"The '86 kit was actually appalling and last year's was a much nicer yellow.

"You associate happiness with victories so your favourite kit is always going to be from winning times I think so hopefully we will get that again this season."

But the coach driver said his eight-year-old son Lucas, who has Down's syndrome and is battling Leukaemia, loved every Oxford kit.

He said: "He's Yellows mad and loves all the shirts as long as I'm wearing the same one as him.

"We bought a replica Wang shirt a few years ago but we always have to be wearing the same shirt wherever we go."

Mr Randall's favourite kit though was the blue-collared, bright yellow Spall kit with blue shorts worn when the club moved up the leagues between 1982 and 1985.

On Twitter there was even some love for the 'deckchair' shirt which graced the Manor Ground for two seasons after the Milk Cup triumph - an orange and yellow striped number from the Wang era.

The 1990s, encapsulated by the excitement of Joey Beauchamp lighting up the pitch in patterned variations of Unipart classics, seems to have gone under the radar with fans - at least for the moment.

The "basic but effective" Conference promotion shirt of 2010 also got a mention as well as the usual affection for the 1986 simple yellow V-neck.

Lifelong fan Ken Adams said a strong sense of nostalgia meant his favourite kit went way back to his days on the terrace as a teenager.

The 57-year-old said: "I can remember a gold, almost orange kit, from the early 1970s.

"I would have been around 14 at the time and it was back in the day when it was proper football and we had players like John Shuker up front."

The Charlgrove man, who goes to games with his Oxford United Teddy from the '80s as well as a group of human friends, said: "We have had all manner of different kits over the years and I think replicating them as the club seem to be doing now is a great idea - maybe it will bring us even more success."
