AN OXFORD schoolgirl who made it to the national finals of the Top Trumps Schools Tournament narrowly missed out on first place.

Nine-year-old Briana Uleru, who goes to St Christopher's CofE Primary School in Cowley, finished in a very respectable third place instead.

After beating thousands of children her age in the first rounds of the competition, she took on 11 other top trumpers in the final at Birmingham Science Museum on Saturday.

Briana moved to Oxford from her native Romania last year with her mum, dad and grandma, but said going to the Top Trumps club at her new school helped her make friends.
