CREWS were called to a roof fire in Thame High Street on Friday night.
Five fire engines attended the scene shortly before 6.30pm and managed to stop the blaze from spreading.
Incident Commander Andy Ford said there was fire and smoke coming from the bay window on the first floor when they arrived.
He said fortunately the resident had been alerted by smoke alarms and added: "The firefighting crews worked hard to extinguish the fire which had spread into a bay window roof from the bedroom and stopped it spreading to the second floor of the property.”
Station Manager Julian Green praised the quick actions of firefighters and said: “By putting water on the fire within seconds of arrival, firefighters stopped it from spreading and damaging an historic house further”.
The cause of the fire was accidental.
