HER MAJESTY's milestone birthday will be celebrated this weekend in right royal fashion with thousands taking to street parties across Oxfordshire.

The Queen will be joined by many across the world to celebrate her official 90th birthday on Saturday and Oxfordshire is leading the way with a bustling line-up of events.

From a band in a bunker to barmy bun throwing, celebrations will be fit for a Queen and mark the impressive feat for our beloved royal.

In the city a few special locals will be honourary guests at a ceremony at Christ Church for anyone who is celebrating their 90th birthday this year.

Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire Tim Stevenson and the Dean of Christ Church Martyn Percy have invited anyone in the county that was born in 1926 to a Service of Thanksgiving and afternoon tea on Saturday from 3pm.

Also on Saturday, Great Milton Church Fete, just a stone's throw from Oxford, is being held in honour of the royal birthday from 2pm to 5pm.

It will be hosted at St Mary's Church and include games, stalls, cake and a band.

Café Aloha in Botley will also host a Great British Street Party with lawn games in The Square plus afternoon tea and stalls from 11am on Saturday.

On Sunday there will be a whole host of street parties including a right royal knees up in Pipkin Way, East Oxford.

Residents will be out in droves decorating their houses with bunting while enjoying a barbecue, games and music.

In Blackbird Leys on Sunday there will be a Royal Birthday Bash at the church of the Holy Family from 6pm with music from the Salvation Army band and the Pantasy Steel Band.

There will be a weekend of events in South Hinksey with a garden party on Hinksey Hill Saturday from 12.30pm and a street party in Manor Road on Sunday from 3pm.

Wantage celebrations will see a two-day party starting in Manor Road Recreation Ground on Saturday and moving to the Market Place on Sunday.

Saturday's park party is aiming to be a traditional country fair with music from Wantage Silver Band and tea and cake from the local WI.

Sunday's fun day will be a much more raucous affair with live rock music from local bands, a gin and tonic tent and freshly-cooked hog roast for carnivorous royalists.

In Abingdon tradition will see town leaders gather on top of the County Hall Museum on Saturday to shower 4,500 buns on the crowd below to celebrate the royal occasion.

Crowds in Market Place will sing the National Anthem before Mayor Alice Badcock begins the mayhem with the first doughy drop at 7pm.

In East Hendred on Sunday a procession, picnics, scarecrow trail and pram race will make up the celebrations being staged in Mill Lane from 2pm.

Marcham is also hosting its royal celebrations on Sunday, which will clear cars from Morland Road for an open air church service at 11am followed by a community lunch at midday.

In Thame there will be a Best of British carnival on Saturday at Southern Road recreational area and Sunday there will follow a birthday blessing and St Mary's Church service.

Wheatley locals will be able to enjoy a musical service from 2pm on Sunday before a parade through High Street plus games, stalls and food.

The celebrations in Wheatley will also host a wheelbarrow race at 5pm and barn dance from 6.30pm.

Wallingford will hold its royal birthday celebrations later in the summer with a garden party, music and make-your-own-crown sessions on August 14 from 1pm.

Didcot's "Royal Affayre" will be held on July 2 in St Edmonds Park from 1pm with picnics, crafts, activities and a bouncy castle.

North Oxfordshire

In Bicester the town's heritage will create a dramatic backdrop to an event which is hoped will attract about 1,000 people as the County Youth Orchestra takes centre stage at Bicester Heritage motor park.

The concert will be hosted in a hangar on Saturday, July 9, from 6.30pm with a British theme.

Elsewhere in town will be a number of streets parties including Launton Fete on Saturday from 1pm and those in Hanover Gardens retirement homes and the Bicester Big Lunch expected to rival that along The Mall by attracting thousands to Sheep Street on Sunday.

A flypast will also grace the skies of Bicester above the Launton Village fete which plans to be a royal tea party.

Townspeople will take on a royal theme for the Banbury District Show which pulls in crowds of celebrators on Sunday from 10.30am and Spiceball Park will be packed with family activities.

There will also be a street party in the RVS community cafe in Castle Street, Banbury next Thursday, June 16, kicking off at 11am.

West Oxfordshire

It will be all go in Witney as locals put on a weekend of events starting with "breakfast with the Queen" at St Mary's Church on Saturday where locals can enjoy breakfast with the community watching the trooping of the colour.

Then later that evening there will also be a concert at the church from 7pm before Sunday's street party outside the church from 1pm which includes music, activities and a hog roast.

The Great Court at Blenheim Palace will also be royally transformed to host seven brass bands with a performance of Happy Birthday and the National Anthem from 1pm on Saturday.

Langford Gardens will host an open day on Sunday from 2pm to 6pm in honour of Her Majesty and locals in Freeland will also be hosting a street party from11.30am on the same day.

Then, with enough cake to fill more than 600 people, residents in Ramsden villagers will host their traditional village fete from 12noon with a royal twist including games, stalls and a 26kg cake.
