AN ADDICTION recovery hub in Blackbird Leys which opened in June last year is ready to help more people than ever.

The MYOX4 centre in Knights Road was set up by national charity Lifeline after it was forced to close its doors in Cowley Road.

Nine volunteers have now been enlisted alongside permanent staff, with more being sought.

Weekly Cocaine Anonymous meetings have been set up alongside Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous.

Outreach work is also being carried out across the city, with drop-in sessions now regularly held at Rose Hill Community Centre and Templars Square Shopping Centre.

Manager DeeDee Wallace said: "We are so busy; it's crazy. We have more and more people accessing us; there is quite a lot of footfall.

"We are always looking for more volunteers. Anyone who wants to volunteer can come in and have a meeting."

The most recent cohort of former addicts will graduate from the centre's 14-week, abstinence-based recovery programme next week.

People who are struggling with alcohol or drug addiction are encouraged to sign up to the next programme, which will begin on Monday, June 13 and still has spaces free.
