EDDIE Pepperell never recovered from a disastrous start to the second round as he missed the cut at the BMW PGA Championship.

The Abingdon golfer carded a five-over par round of 77 to finish on four-over for the tournament, missing out on reaching the weekend by three shots.

The damage was largely done in his opening two holes, where he dropped four shots to tumble down the Wentworth leaderboard, having resumed on one-under following the first round.

A bogey five at the opening hole was followed by a triple-bogey six at the 154-yard par three second.

The 25-year-old steadied the ship with six successive pars, but another dropped shot on the ninth saw him reach the turn in 40 strokes.

Back-to-back birdies at the 11th and 12th boosted hopes of a charge, but the good work was undone by a double bogey at the par four 13th.

A further bogey followed the 17th, although he finished with a birdie.

It was the first time Pepperell had not made the cut at the Surrey course, in his fourth appearance.

Danny Willett, YE Yang and Scott Hend lead on ten-under at the halfway stage.

Pepperell is due back in action next Thursday, at the Nordea Masters in Sweden.
