A 38-year-old woman committed suicide after grieving over her father's death.

Hazel Cassell, from Kingfishers in Grove, was found hanged in her home on April 13, an inquest heard at Oxfordshire County Hall on Wednesday.

In a statement read at the inquest friend Ashley Evans said: "The last time I saw Hazel was on Thursday, April 7, as she would come round every Thursday at 7.30pm for dinner and she would leave at 12.15pm.

"She cycled home as she did every week, she was her normal self and seemed all in order."

Mrs Evans went on to describe her close friendship with Hazel and a bit about Hazel's troubled early life after her mum died when she was 11-years-old leaving Hazel, her dad, brother and sister.

She said: "Hazel's dad died a few years ago and she stayed at the family home, I think she was a bit embarrassed about the mess it was in.

"When I saw her she was upset and referred to family issues, I have no idea why she would want to take her own life."

The inquest heard how a friend went round to check on Miss Cassell after being told that she had not been seen as usual for the previous few days.

Miss Cassell was eventually found hanged in her bedroom and on her bed was a note to her friends, another note described as a suicide note with reference to her diary.

Coroner Darren Salter said that the diary was found to reference Miss Cassell's intentions to take her own life and also repeatedly mentioned – more than 100 times – her father's death.

He said: "This is a very sad case and I would like to pass on my condolences to family and friends for your loss of Hazel in such tragic and surprising circumstances.

"I am satisfied that evidence shows that Hazel died on or about April 11, she hanged herself in her bedroom at home.

"My conclusion is one of suicide.

"My condolences. You can't change things, but at least the formal process can be concluded."
