A NOVELIST and a script-writer are among the honorary graduates announced by Oxford Brookes for 2016.

Paul Mayhew-Archer, who co-wrote The Vicar of Dibley and Mrs Brown's Boys, and critically acclaimed writer Sarah Durant will be given honorary degrees at the university next month.

Opera Holland Park general manager Michael Volpe, KPMG partner Melanie Richards and Chartered Management Institute chief executive Ann Francke will also be honoured.

They will be joined by The Reverend the Lord Leslie Griffiths, Dame Julie Moore, Dr Tim Cook and Professor Judith Ellis.

University vice-chancellor Professor Alistair Fitt said: "Honorary graduates are always chosen very carefully.

"We consider how their particular strengths link with the work of the university and the conferment of the degree allows Brookes to acknowledge those whom we admire and respect.

"When graduating students hear an honorary graduate speak, they get an important reminder of what can be achieved.

"Each of this year’s recipients is an exceptional role model for our students and staff and I am honoured to have such inspirational figures join us for some of the university’s most memorable moments."
