NATIONAL Lottery winner Charmaine Watson has reminded people in Oxfordshire they have a better chance than most of striking it rich.

The OX postcode is in the top 10 luckiest, with 13 new lottery winners living there joining the millionaires' club over the past two years.

Twenty-six have celebrated a major prize win of £50,000 or more.

Mrs Watson, 35, from Eynsham, who won £2.3m in 2005, visited St George's Tower in Oxford yesterday to remind people to try their luck.

The mum-of-three, a former pupil of Bartholomew School, said: "Winning the lottery can't change your health or your family life, but it certainly makes life easier and I have been lucky enough to support a number of projects including an anti-bullying musical.

"I haven't been treated any differently by the people of Eynsham since my win. It's a lovely place to live.

"After I won I had one letter from someone from outside the area asking for money and that was it. I have no regrets about going public."

Mrs Watson lives with her husband Robert Watson, 45, and three sons Ryan, 12, George, nine, and Daniel, six.

OX ranks seventh out of the 121 postcodes for the number of millionaires created in the last two years, sharing the top 10 position with Cardiff, Manchester and Warrington.

Mrs Watson, who became rich overnight with the ticket her grandfather bought her, added: "I’ve set up my own business, invested in others, and even made a contribution to the arts with the anti-bullying musical I was able to support."

Since the launch of the Lottery in 1994 there have been 41 millionaires in the OX postcode – more than one per year – while 403 top tier prizes of at least £50,000 have been banked.

Glasgow topped the list with 21 millionaires in the past two years, followed by Birmingham and Sheffield with 19, Belfast with 17, and Coventry and Liverpool 14.

St George's Tower got a £3.9m Heritage Lottery handout in 2002 for an Oxford Preservation Trust revamp.
