A HARDY group of 18 walkers put their best foot forward for charity on a trek through Shropshire this month.

The three-day hike from Thursday, May 12 to Sunday, May 15 was organised by Blackbird Leys Parish Council clerk Nicky Clargo for her 'Oxfordshire Stars' fundraising group, which runs sponsored events and activities for national charity Marie Curie.

Participants pledged to raise a minimum of £40 each for the cause and managed to gather a total of £1,050.

Those taking part included Nicky Clargo, Karen Whelan, Angela Wright, Ali Webber, Jean Conner, Connie Con, Steve Dance, Richard Mitchell, Ray Dilworth, Matt Wixey, Bern Wakefield-Heath, Sue Malvern, Bev Hassan, Paul Bobby, Ann Bourton, Judi Martin, Steve Lovett and Russ Palmer.

Miss Clargo said: "It was a fantastic trip. The sun shone every day and team spirit was really high. It was challenging in places but we chatted, laughed and sang in amongst some huffing and puffing. Events like this are a great way to get fit while enjoying the countryside, meeting lovely people and doing something for a worthwhile cause."

More events are being planned across Oxfordshire and beyond in the coming months. All proceeds will go to Marie Curie, which provides specialist nursing care for people with terminal illnesses. For more information or to donate visit justgiving.com/oxfordshire-stars2016
