THE 80 events which will feature in programmes for this year's Wantage Summer Festival have been decided.

Organisers have now sent their designs to the printers, but other artists, performers and speakers are still welcome to apply for an unlisted place.

This year's festival of arts, history, heritage and science will run from Saturday, June 11, to Sunday, July 17.

Registration for performers will stay open until the first day of the festival online via wantagesummerfestival.com.

Festival planners have invited all performers, volunteers and community members to an open meeting to discuss final preparations at the Vale and Downland Museum in Church Street, Wantage, from 7pm on Thursday, May 26.

The opening ceremony for this year's festival will be held as part of Wantage's town-wide celebrations for the Queen's birthday on June 11 and 12.

Anyone interested in running a royal-themed stall during those two days is asked to email Katie at wantagedeputy@btconnect.com.

This year's Wantage Summer Festival will celebrate the event's 20th anniversary.

The month-long celebration of dance, music and the arts has attracted thousands over the month of June over the past two decades.

Following the retirement of the chairman Julia Reynolds last year, it looked like the festival may not run again, but two locals – business consultant Sylwia Korsak and Grove volunteer ambassador Linda Baines – took over and are now leading this year's organisation.
