COUNCILLORS and staff at the Kassam Stadium are making "good progress" in dealing with a serious litter problem around the site, Councillor Linda Smith has said.
Last month a disagreement erupted over whose responsibility it was to clear piles of rubbish and incidents of flytipping in the Kassam car parks and Ozone leisure park.
Following a first walkabout in the area it was still unclear which land fell under the jurisdiction of Firoka, the company belonging to Firoz Kassam, who owns the site.
On Wednesday, April 13 a second tour of the blighted areas was undertaken by Blackbird Leys and Northfield Brook councillors Linda Smith and Jennifer Pegg, along with officers and Kassam site manager Michael Doyle.
Ms Smith said: "We had a constructive meeting and brief walkabout of the blighted areas. We made some progress on the issue of land ownership thanks to the maps I obtained but there is still some detail which requires further investigation on that front.
"Firoka Management confirmed they will be taking steps to clear the build up of rubbish affecting the furthest reaches of the overflow car park and the East stand car park and we resolved to all work together to explore solutions to keep the areas clean and tidy in the future.
"It was a positive and useful meeting and I felt we are making good progress in getting the problem resolved."
