FRAZER Kernan was Bicester BC’s star turn with a stoppage victory in Witney Fight Club’s amateur show at Windrush Leisure Centre on Saturday.

The promising 14-year-old overcame and stopped his outgunned rival, Daniel Jones, in the third round.

Both boxers entered the ring looking confident, but it was Kernan who made the brighter start with a sharp and precise jab that put Jones on the back-foot.

Kernan, who soon realised he was the superior boxer, started to put together some neat combinations.

Round two saw the Bicester fighter step up the tempo, using different angles in order to penetrate his opponent’s tight defence.

One minute into the round, Kernan landed a sickening left hook to the body that put Jones on the deck.

He bravely got back to his feet and managed to survive to the end of the round.

In the third, Kernan’s body attack was relentless and the referee had to jump in to save Jones from any further punishment.

Afterwards, Kernan said: “I‘ve been training really hard in the gym and felt very fit going into this bout.

“I’m pleased to get this victory against a strong and tough opponent.”

Bicester’s head coach, Daza Usher, said: “Frazer is very professional in his approach.

“I am very proud of how he has developed and I’m confident he will continue to improve and progress.”

Clubmate Logan Usher gained a technical knock-out against Jamie Knee (Swindon).

His opponent failed to come out for the third round after taking a vicious right hook to the body at the end of the second.

There was also success for Bicester’s Dean Bennison.

The personal trainer scored a second round KO victory over the brave Michael Lynch. Both boxers showed good fitness levels, but Bennison had the edge in strength and outmuscled his opponent.
