A JAM-PACKED summer picnic day putting the spotlight on fathers has been planned by the Oxford Polish Association (OPA).

The Father's Day picnic at St Gregory the Great School on Sunday, June 19 will feature everything from a Polish sausage barbecue to a 24x24ft adult-friendly bouncy castle.

Organiser Ewa Gluza, from Blackbird Leys, said she hoped the event would be a chance to bring fathers together with their children and partners.

She said: "It's a good advantage to the fathers to take the children and have fun with the family outside.

"Mother's Day is a big day, with lots of activities and events, not just restaurants but concerts and other things, but Father's Day is not as important.

"But the father is equally important and especially as it's in June we felt it would be very nice to take them out and have a good time."

In the past OPA has held family events on June 3, the Polish national children's day, but this year opted for term-time event to make sure families could attend.

Activities on offer include face painting, a circus workshop, yoga, line dancing, cake decorating, balloon-twisting and Jiu Jitsu, and most are free of charge.

Ms Gluza added: "The children love the bouncy castle but this year we got the biggest possible castle so parents can go with the children."

Alongside the barbecue visitors can buy traditional sweet and sour crepes, Caribbean and Mediterranean food, with jazz music provided by local man Nick Gill throughout.

The event runs from 12pm to 4.30pm. For more information email info@opaoxford.org
