TWO exhibitions of photographs and artwork from disaster-struck Haiti will come to Oxford this month.

Entitled I Witness, the series has been created by international charity Christian Aid to explore both devastation and hope in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, following a huge earthquake in Haiti in 2010, and Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

From Saturday, April 16 to Friday, April 29 the first exhibition at St Giles' Church will focus on the work of a group of young artists in the slum districts of Port-au-Prince who are being supported by Christian Aid's local partner organisation, APROSIFA.

Many have seen members of their community die in the earthquake and subsequent cholera outbreak.

The second display, a photography exhibition, will be at Christ Church Cathedral from Friday, April 22 until Sunday, May 22, and explores the environment, sustainable livelihoods and safe housing.

Anwen Holmes, Christian Aid’s regional coordinator, said: "We are delighted to be bringing these exhibitions to Oxford.

"We hope lots of people will be inspired by the difference we can make together and take the opportunity to learn more about our work in Haiti.

"The main exhibition at Christ Church gives people the bigger picture of the variety of work and progress being made in Haiti."
