A NEW artist in town who has been persuading complete amateurs to "give it a go" will hold an exhibition of their efforts this weekend.

Jane Vaux, who moved to Wantage recently, set up a version of the Give It A Go (GIAG) art group she used to run in Devon for seven years.

Slowly but surely locals were persuaded to try their hand at the visual arts, and now she has enough of their creations to hold an exhibition.

The students' canvases will be displayed in the glass room next door to the King Alfred's Head pub in Wantage Market Place on Saturday and Sunday.

Ms Vaux said: "I lived in Devon for seven years and established Give It A Go there for complete beginners onwards and it was extremely successful.

"I re-established it in Wantage with a view to giving Oxfordshire students the confidence and encouragement to see their creativity flourish and produce original art."

The art teacher said she was keen to make buyers aware of the difference between publishing company art and original paintings.

The completely original one-off paintings on show this weekend will be available to purchase either by telephoning Ms Vaux or asking the staff at the pub.
