THE homeless woman hailed a hero after saying she foiled a burglary has spoken about being arrested.

Thousands has been raised on a fundraising site set up by staff at Lush beauty shop who praised Lottie Pauling-Chamberlain for handing back items stolen from the Cornmarket store in Oxford.

The page was suspended by the shop after police said they had arrested two people in connection with the burglary.

Yesterday Miss Pauling-Chamberlain, 29, was released on bail by police and stood by her account of what happened in the early hours of last Wednesday.

She said: "I know the shop staff well; they're like a family.

"Someone came to the door and was fiddling with the letterbox. My dog Marley was growling. The man came out with a box, put it down, then again with a laptop.

"I asked if he was waiting for Ben the manager. He said he was and I said there was no manager called Ben. He was surprised. I grabbed the laptop and the box and he went off down the road.

"I waited for my boyfriend to turn up and put it in a safe place. We came back the next day and handed the stuff back."

She added: "If I wasn't homeless this wouldn't happen.

"I'm really glad everyone is fundraising, and I hope this doesn't ruin it, because I don't want to be homeless anymore."

Thames Valley Police said a 29-year-old woman of no fixed abode was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a burglary other than a dwelling with intent to steal, and on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs. A 42-year-old man, of no fixed abode, was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
