There’s so much going on this week, you’ll need a lie down while you decide what to choose, but while you’re there here’s a quick peek at your week ahead in Oxford music and stage wise.

* It’s a busy weekend at The Bullingdon, with Eliza and The Bear, kicking off on Saturday with their big rousing tunes, sing-along choruses and irrepressible sense of joy, for a night of favourites and newer tunes from their soon-to-be-released debut album. seetickets.com

* The circus is back in town, but not as you know it. Instead of the Big Top, the New Theatre is hosting The Moscow State Circus On Monday and Tuesday. Based on the Russian folklore story of Cvetik-Semicvetik, or the flower with seven colours by Valentin Petrovich Katayev, each of the petals represents magnificent feats of human achievement, surrounded by a multitude of flying, back flipping, juggling, wire walking and roller-skating performers. 0844 871 3020 atgtickets.com/oxford

* It’s your chance to support Independent Venue Week tonight, while improving your street cred, when The Cellar stages its showcase gig featuring three acts guaranteed to make it big: Maiians, Cassels and Rosie Caldicot. The night is a joint venture between the venue and BBC Introducing. wegottickets.com

* Lots of people sing, play guitar and tell stories but not make you laugh at the same time. Except for Richard Digance who appears tomorrow at The Theatre Chipping Norton with a wealth of new songs and anecdotes. One of the country’s most celebrated comedy entertainers. 01608 642350 chippingnortontheatre.com

* Carry on supporting independent venue week on Sunday by getting behind one of the city’s best-loved bands. The Dreaming Spires have been nominated for a couple of accolades at next week’s Americana Music Awards, in Hackney, and are warming up for the occasion by playing a gig at The Bullingdon. wegottickets.com

* A more poignant evening can be had at Pegasus on Wednesday when Tiata Fahodzi returns with an astonishing production involving two silent actors, following a father and a son after the unexpected death of the mother. Watch them struggle to find the language to bridge the gap and to understand what family means without her in this stage debut. 01865 812150. pegasustheatre.org.uk

* Not for the brave of feint-hearted, The Anti-Slam comes to the OFS on Saturday night to crown the city’s worst poet. The internationally touring show, sold out at the Edinburgh Fringe for the past three years purely through word of mouth, becoming an underground success for lovers and haters of poetry alike. www.oldfirestation.org.uk

* And don’t miss Strictly Come Dancing’s Brendan Cole at the New Theatre on Wednesday who is promising A Night to Remember with his new live music and dance extravaganza loaded with ballroom magic and Latin excitement. Box Office: 0844 871 3020 www.atgtickets.com/oxford

* And lastly Indie-pop princess Lucy Rose hits The Theatre, Chipping Norton on Monday for some more melancholic introspection. Don’t miss a chance to see her in a suitably lovely setting for her broken hearted musings, chippingnortontheatre.co.uk
