Plans for a five storey student accommodation block to be built in Headington has been approved by councillors despite residents' concerns.

The new 167-bed student accommodation - to be built on the corner of Latimer Road and London Road - was original refused by the East area planning committee but tonight approved by the planning review committee.

Concerns had been raised about the overall size of the development and the safe-guarding issues relating to the building overlooking neighbouring Headington Preparatory School.

Councillors approved the application with the condition that screening would be put in place to ensure residents would not be able to see into the school building.

The 167-bed project, Beech House, would mean the demolition of four existing homes which will also be rebuilt within the plans.
