SOME of Oxfordshire’s famous faces have been putting their pens to paper and showing off their doodling skills for National Doodle Day.

The creations of illustrator Korky Paul and Harry Potter actress Miriam Margolyes will be auctioned on eBay from February 5 to raise money for Epilepsy Action, alongside the work of TV presenter Lorraine Kelly and former Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho.

Korky Paul, famed for illustrating the Winnie the Witch books, said it was a privilege to be raising money for the charity.

He said: “I think that it’s wonderful for me to be able to give back to such a fantastic charity with my little doodles.

“It really is quite something to think that people want to pay for something that I’ve scribbled and that the money is going towards helping people who need it most.”

Mr Paul, who lives in Summertown, said he thought doodling was the best way to come up with new ideas for drawings and said it was how his Winnie the Witch drawings first came about.

He said: “Winnie the Witch began as something very small, really took off, and now is going to be turned into a television programme for children, which is very exciting.”

Mr Paul, 64, has donated a drawing of Winnie on her broomstick, which will go under the hammer along with scribbles by other celebrities until February 7.

Much-loved actress Miriam Margolyes, who was a pupil at Oxford High School, has drawn her own self-portrait for the event.

On the back of her doodle card it says: “As you see I cannot draw at all. This is a self-portrait. All the Best, Miriam.”

The proceeds will directly support the 600,000 people living with epilepsy in the UK.

As well as bidding for a celebrity scribble, Epilepsy Action is encouraging doodlers all over the country to ‘do a doodle and donate’.

Once people have doodled, they can donate online at nationaldoodleday.co.uk or text DOODLE to 70300
