SCORES of visitors milled around Witney Corn Exchange this week to find out about ways to support the community.

The volunteer recruitment day on Thursday, organised by Witney Town Council and local support centre Volunteer Link-Up, offered participants the chance to learn about opportunities with local charities including Blue Cross, Oxfam and Yellow Submarine, and find the best fit for them.

Volunteer Link-Up manager Patricia Chirgwin said: “Volunteering can make a real difference. It’s a win-win situation. The community benefits from the support it receives and the volunteer feels great, having contributed.”

As reported in the Oxford Mail, groups say there is an urgent need for more volunteers in West Oxfordshire. More than 800 people in the district currently rely on the help of volunteers, including drivers and ‘befrienders’ for lonely people.
