CLASSROOMS at Cheney School were transformed into cities of the ancient world at a festival which celebrated classical civilisations.

The Festival of Lost Cities welcomed visitors to the Headington school for live music, exhibitions and talks by experts.

Four classrooms hosted exhibitions on Rome, Troy, Baghdad and Knossos and guests were able to take part in an artefact mural trails.

Broadcasters Natalie Haynes, author of The Ancient Guide to Modern Life, and Martha Kearney, were among those who gave talks at the event on Monday.

Visitors to the event were welcomed on the door by ‘Roman centurion’ Frazer Hartley-Morgan, a Year 13 student at the school.

The 18-year-old, from Barton, said: “I am pretty much the go-to person to go and dress up and stand on the door.

“I bought the costume last September when the school did a Roman festival and I have an interest in classics and Ancient Rome.

“I enjoy studying it and learning about their conquest in Britain.

“The festival of lost cities went really well, we had a large amount of people turn up.”
