TWO vegan campaigners braved the winter weather in just lettuce bikinis to spread the message about animal cruelty.

Daryna Milgevska, 22, and Jenny Miller, 28, were in Broad Street, Oxford, on Tuesday to campaign for pressure group Peta, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Peta claims turkeys live in horrific, cramped conditions and are slaughtered at only five months old. The pair offered a meat-free alternative, Tofurkey, to shoppers and tourists.

Miss Miller, who has worked for Peta for a year, said: “We opened people’s minds to new ideas.”

Miss Milgevska said they wanted to break the stereotype that turkey is the only thing you can eat.

She added: “It’s upsetting that humans only care about cute and cuddly animals but not for others like turkeys. There are so many other options in the market like Tofurkey which has a really nice taste.”
