Roads near the Redbridge Hollow travellers' site are at a standstill after a van covered with incendiary graffiti was dumped in the middle of the road.

The transit van was reportedly lying on its roof between Kennington Roundabout and Hinksey Interchange.

According to witnesses it bore slogans including "Thames Valley Police officers are scum", "RIP Raul Moat" and "Up the IRA".

One who wished to remain anonymous saud police officers were onsite at about 8am.

He said: "The van is in the middle of the road and it's blocked one lane going into Oxford.

"Traffic is at a standstill. It's all along the A34 pushing back to Kidlington and traffic near the travellers' site is completely stationary."

Another passerby added that "paedos" and "racist" had also been scrawled on the vehicle.

He said: "I was driving on my way to work. The van had been towet out on its roof and left outside on the railway gate just before the Kennington turnoff.

"I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It seems to me that they have got a bit of beef with the police. It's sending a message."

Thames Valley Police spokesman Gareth Ford-Lloyd said police were called at 7.23am to the incident, which involved a white van on its roof.

He confirmed that the van did have graffiti on it and was being recovered by police.

The road was partially blocked earlier but all lanes have now reopened.
