HENRY Lamont has been named Oxford University's captain as they go in search of a historic sixth successive Varsity Match victory at Twickenham next week.

Centre Lamont takes over as skipper from club captain George Messum, who is unable to play as his History of Art course does not meet the criteria set out for Blues sport eligibility.

The Dark Blues have named nine former Blues in their starting XV to face Cambridge on December 10.

Prop Lewis Anderson has already tasted victory on five occasions and is set to equal the record of six appearances which was set by England international Herbert George Fuller, who played for the Light Blues between 1878-83.

Backs Matt Janney, Lamont and Henry Hughes are seeking a fourth success, while prop Ian Williams and No 8 Fraser Heathcote are in line for their hat-tricks.

Fly half George Cullen starts and will be hoping to add to the 18 points he scored in last season’s record breaking 43-3 victory.

Matt Geiger, Tom Stileman, Richie Halpin, Andrew Grant, Nic Roberts-Huntley and Will Wilson are in line for their first Blues.

Cambridge announced their side earlier today, with Welsh international Jamie Roberts among six players who will win their first Blue next Thursday.
