WELL, what a surprise to see my 21-year-old self in your picture of the Gloucester Arms pub in Oxford city centre (Memory Lane, October 12).
As you said, a grey pony and phaeton, with four elegantly-clad Victorian ladies on board, arrived for a Champagne reception in 1984 to mark the renovation of the pub, which my ex-husband and I ran.
Serving 8am breakfasts seems like a lifetime ago. Thank you for the memory.
