THESE young budding musicians were the first to sign up to become members of the newly-formed Didcot Diamonds Marching Band.
The immediate task in 1989 was to raise money to buy instruments and uniforms – and the 25 members had already been active.
They had carried out a sponsored litter pick in the town, collecting 25 bags of rubbish and raising more than £150.
Organiser Tina Sullivan: “We have ordered 10 trumpets and drum pads, but we will need another 10 of each before training begins.”
The band had already decided on its uniform – red jackets with a diamond logo, white trousers and white hats with a red plume.
