Oxfordshire County Council has launched a consultation asking people for their view on where a new south east link road should be built near Bicester.

There are two options for the new road which will connect from the A41, near junction 9 of the M40, to Graven Hill.

The first is to align with the roundabout at Vendee Drive, and the second is to build it nearer to Wendlebury.

John Broad, acting chairman of the Bicester branch of CPRE, criticised option two saying it would “box in” the village.

He said “The most obvious route is Vendee drive because the roundabout’s already there.”

Mr Broad also pointed a new road bridge would have to be built as the Oxford/Bicester Village/London rail link cuts across the route.

He added: “They have got an engineering problem of trying to build a bridge over an active line. The decision should have been made much earlier.”

The county council’s consultation said: “The Perimeter Road will support employment and housing growth in the town.

“This consultation will help to determine which alignment should be included in Part Two of the Cherwell Local Plan, a decision that needs to be made by Spring/ Summer 2016.”

Drop in exhibitions showing the plans are being held today at The Lion pub, Wendlebury, from 2.30pm to 8pm, Friday at the Littlebury Hotel, Kings End, Bicester, between 12 noon and 7pm, and Saturday at John Paul II Centre, Webb Court, Causeway, Bicester, from 10am to 4pm.

The closing date for people to have their say is Friday, December 18.
