Fashion designer Dame Vivienne Westwood is today taking the fight to Prime Minister David Cameron by driving a tank towards his home.

The 74-year-old's tank will rumble from Enstone to Mr Cameron’s home in Dean, to “declare war” on the Government’s approval of fracking licenses.

She is accusing Mr Cameron of approving licenses for fracking in 27 locations but not in his home constituency of Witney.

Dame Vivienne also believes chemicals used in fracking can be deadly, leading to cancers, respiratory failure and skin conditions.

The designer said: “Mr. Cameron’s deliberate and systematic use of chemicals against innocent British women and children has led to this declaration of ‘War on Fracking’, with communities rising up to fight fracking.

“The public will not take it lying down and will fight tooth and nail.

“ Politicians are behaving like criminals and we are calling for regime change in Britain."

The date was chosen as it was Mr Cameron’s first Friday in his constituency after parliament re-opened after the summer recess, and before conference season recess, which begins on Thursday, September 17.

A Department of Energy and Climate Change spokesman said:  "Independent regulators examine companies’ drilling proposals and will robustly enforce their safety, health and environmental regulations effectively. They will not allow hazardous operations.

"Any chemicals used in fracking are subject to assessment by The Environment Agency who will not permit their use if there is a risk to the environment or people’s health."
