Community campaigners in East Oxford have marched from the former Temple Cowley Pools site to Oxford Town Hall to protest against the proposed closure of community centres.

More than 40 activists marched through the rain, with banners saying "the council isn't listening" and "Labour is not listening to people."

Head of the march was Chaka Artwell, who is the organiser of the Save East Oxford Community Centre group.

Campaigners said they were fighting plans by Oxford City Council to remove the association currently running East Oxford Comunit Centre in Princes Street off Cowley Road.

Save Temple Cowley Pools campaigner Jane Alexander and Green Party councillor and former Lord Maypr Elise Benjamin were among the protesters.

The group marched to the town hall in St Aldates but campaigners were unable to hand in a petition of 800 signatures as the venue was closed due to the Bank Holiday.
