A FIFTH of all GCSE students at Magdalen College School celebrated 10 A*s or more, while over half of the year gained more than 8 A*s.

Joshua Campbell, 16, from Oxford was one of the students who achieved 10 A*s.

He said: “I’m overwhelmed and very surprised with my results.

“When I walked in here this morning I could never have imagined walking out of here with 10 A*s.

“I’m really grateful to the school for everything they’ve done for me.”

Joshua is planning on staying at Magdalen College School for sixth form and will be studying Latin, English literature, politics and economics.

Ben Wierszycki, 16, achieved 7 A*s, 2 As and one B.

He said: “I’m really pleased with my grades and I think my parents are quite happy too It’s always satisfying when your hard work pays off.”

Headmaster Dr Tim Hands said: “All our boys are to be congratulated. These are outstanding results and reflect a year of hard work and tremendous achievements both in and out of the classroom. “ Every single student in Year 11 achieved 5 A* to C grades including English and maths, just like last year.

Dr Hands added: “My thanks again go to the teaching staff. Our pupils are inspired to aim high at every level of their school life by a dedicated and tireless teaching body.”

Many of the students will enter the sixth form just as plans for a new sixth form block have been given the go-ahead.
