WORK to fix a newly-fitted gate at an Oxford weir is taking place.
Workmen were called in to investigate why a tipping gate at the weir next to the Osney Lock Hydro on theRiver Thames was vibrating. The Environment Agency staff figured out the gate was not sealing properly due to a faulty plate.
A new plate is in the process of being made and the workers will return next week for it to be fitted.
Earlier this year the EA replaced three vertical gates at the weir with a new, mechanically-operated tilting gate.
The Osney Lock Hydro was officially commissioned in April and has been generating electricity for the past few months. The community-owned project has said the winter months will see peak generation. It is hoped the scheme will make £2m over a period of 40 years.
