THE new multi-million pound community building being built in Bicester’s town centre is beginning to take shape with all five storeys now in place.

The £6.5m addition to Pioneer Square will house Cherwell District Council’s Bicester office, a new library, a 53-bedroom Travelodge hotel, offices and shops or restaurants.

It comes as part of the town centre redevelopment that included a new Sainsbury’s, Vue cinema and multi-storey car park.

The most recent addition to the town square is a new 24-hour gym that has replaced vacant units on the corner of Wesley Lane opposite the community building.

Cherwell District Council lead member for estates and economy Norman Bolster said: “It is great to see another company investing in Bicester and bringing something new to the town centre. By offering 24-hour access, Anytime Fitness will not only fit in around the needs of its customers, but support neighbouring businesses by helping to boost footfall in town throughout the day and night.

“The arrival of Anytime Fitness will increase the choices available to residents and strengthen Bicester’s town centre economy even further.”

The new Bicester Community Centre is being built at the former Franklin’s Yard car park.

The Pioneer Square area is part of the £70m town centre regeneration and the new community centre building should be complete by next spring.
