INADEQUATE parking and overdevelopment are among reasons given for objections to a new retail park in Bicester.

A decision is set to be made on plans for a Bicester Retail Park which would include Next, Marks and Spencer and one other retailer, plus three restaurants and a gym.

The application has received a number of objections, including Bicester Town Council and BicesterTAG who both, although welcomed the brands, felt it was the wrong location.

Oxfordshire County Council has also fed back concerns for the “loss of skilled jobs”, “the potential increase in out commuting from Bicester as a result of losing a key employment site” and the “impact on the town centre and local centre”.

The plans are for a site just over two hectares on Oxford Road with Bicester Service Station to the north.

Retail units will include Next, Marks and Spencer and possibly TK Maxx, plus a Frankie and Benny’s among proposed restaurants.

A Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre have already been built on the Kingsmere site after outline planning permission was granted for up to 1585 homes, employment, education, a health village, employment and supporting infrastructure in 2008.

The Kingsmere Residents Association has spoken in favour of the development and reported all feedback it had received had been “incredibly positive”.

A decision will be made at Cherwell District Council planning committee meeting on Thursday at 2pm in the council chamber of Bodicote House.
