FAMILIES took advantage of a range of free summer activities as part of a celebration of Oxford’s parks.

Love Parks Weeks kicked off last Frida as part of a weekend of free sport and events in Hollow Way Recreation Ground, Florence Park and Cutteslowe Park.

Dawn Carter and her two grandchildren, Mya Buckingham, 11, and Ashleigh Falla, nine, took up their bats for an outdoor game of table tennis. The trio battled it out in Hollow Way with Go Active instructor Tom Steward.

Other events included children’s treasure hunts and sports as well as giving neighbours the chance to try out tai chi, pilates and yoga.

The week of activities is part of a nationwide initiative to try to people outdoors to enjoy parks and green spaces.

Oxford City Council’s councillor for leisure Mike Rowley said: “We are delighted to be taking part in this year’s celebrations.

“It is a great opportunity to showcase the fantastic activities already available in some of our beautiful parks and for people to come along and find out more about their local green space and all it has to offer.”
