STAFF at a Covered Market flower shop expect trade to blossom in Market Street today as they move outdoors.

For the second time this year, traders will spill out on the road off Cornmarket Street to show off their goods between 8.30am and 5.30pm.

Traders went “uncovered” in November last year to raise their profile and encourage shoppers to use the market, off High Street, in the run-up to Christmas.

Samantha Turner, from Chalgrove, works for Jemini Flowers, which is run by Sandie Griffith, secretary of the Covered Market Traders’ Association.

Ms Turner, 33, said: “The shoppers really seem to like it and it increases our trade for the day and for the whole weekend.”

Labour city councillor Mary Clarkson, the Covered Market Champion, said: “The outdoor market adds to the vibrant shopping experience in the city centre for residents and visitors alike.”
