A SECOND self-build seminar on homes for the Graven Hill site in Bicester is a sell-out.

Crowds are set to flock again to tomorrow’s seminars informing residents about the site that will become the biggest self-build site in the UK.

There is just under a month left to apply to Channel 4’s My Grand Design documentary presented by Kevin McCloud, which will follow ten of the first home builds.

Mr McCloud said: “The quality of applications from people looking to create unique and innovative homes at the Graven Hill site in Bicester is inspiring.

“People are really rising to the challenge and letting their imagination lead them to some truly wonderful design solutions. But there is still time to apply.”

The 187 hectare site, formerly owned by the MoD and sold to Cherwell District Council – has plans for up to 1,900 self build homes.

Permission has also been given for a primary school, employment space, a pub and local shops.

About 700 people registered an interest in the previous self-build seminar earlier in the year, with the next event expecting similar interest.

Two seminars will be held on tomorrow at 1.30pm and 5pm at the Tally Ho Hotel in Ploughey Road, Arncott.

Prices for each plot vary from £95,000 to £105,000 depending on the size of the plot.

The Grand Designs documentary team are looking for people who will be building three-bed homes.

Mr McCloud added: “For decades, self-build in Britain has been the preserve of the relatively wealthy and empowered.

“What is happening at Cherwell is something else: a self-build revolution that will make the custom-designed home accessible to everyone.”

Work is hoped to begin on the first few home on site later this year.

The deadline for applications is Friday, July 31, and can be sent to mygranddesign@boundlessproductions.tv.
