WHAT could be worse than all your teachers making a video of themselves dancing to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk then making you watch it?

How about uploading it to Youtube?

That is exactly what the entire staff at Fitzharrys School, Abingdon, did as a leaving present to their Year 11s.

Teachers, dinner ladies, maintenance staff and receptionists showed off their smoothest moves in the video and then, as if the stress of exams hadn’t been enough, forced the leavers to watch it in their last assembly on Wednesday last week.

They uploaded it to Youtube the same day, where it has been watched more than 7,000 times.

Head of Year 11 Lisa Probert, who co-ordinated the filming last week, said many of the pupils ended up in tears of laughter watching the video.

She said: “They were rolling around on the floor laughing.

“One of my students came up to me and said it was the best thing she had ever seen.

“They were all absolutely thrilled.”

The video’s stand-out performance came from PE teacher Matt Haycocks, who, when the rest of the staff were asked to dance together in front of the school’s main entrance, found his own space, closer to the camera, and showed off just how limber he was.

Geography teacher Neil Middleton also impressed with his moves, standing head and shoulders above the other teachers and wearing cool shades.

The school has never done anything like this before and Mrs Probert pointed the blame for coming up with the scheme squarely at head of English Victoria Clark.

Mrs Probert, a languages teacher who lives in Botley and has three children of her own, said: “Victoria came up to me and said ‘I’d really like to do a video’.”

Mrs Clark went on to choreograph the film, dividing staff up into groups and teaching them their moves.

Mrs Probert said they had to do the whole thing secretly while Year 11s were still on site taking their final GCSEs.

She said: “We just had to be very careful, particularly the bit on reception – they had to send the students away while we shot their scene.”
