Neil Harris believes he only needs to bring in one or two new players as Millwall prepare for life back in League One.

The Lions have already drafted in keeper Jordan Archer and left-back Joe Martin, but missed out on Bradford City striker James Hanson who instead decided to stick with Phil Parkinson’s Bantams.

Several other names have also been linked with summer moves to The Den, although manager Harris denies most of those rumours have any foundation.

And even though pleased with what is already at his disposal, the Lions boss admits ideally he would like to sign up another couple of fresh faces.

Harris said: “I’m delighted to have signed Joe Martin and Jordan Archer in two key positions because it is no secret that I’m after competition in places.

“I’m still after one, maybe two more players.

“I seem to have been linked with every player under the sun and a lot of those names have been news to me.

“I’m really delighted with the shape of the squad and the competition we’ve got at the moment.

“One or two more additions will maybe boost the squad just a bit at the right time but I’m completely patient.

“We are in no rush. We will get the right players at the right time who are right for the club.”

Millwall released 18 players following relegation from the Championship, including the likes of Alan Dunne, Nicky Bailey and Ricardo Fuller.

Harris accepts a lot of know how has left the club but pointed out once again he is planning ahead with youth firmly in mind.

The boss admitted: “It was a lot of experience.

“I was U21s manager and I was sitting in the stand at home games with six or seven senior players for various reasons.

“Sometimes people are different - I would rather work with a smaller squad with everybody together and give an opportunity to young players to come through our ranks as and when they deserve it.

“That is where we are going as a club and that is what this club’s success over the years has been built on – bringing the young players through.”

Harris added: “The biggest thing for me was getting a squad reshaped and renegotiating contracts with players that needed adjusted.

“Bringing back Byron Webster, John Marquis and Fred Onyedinma to the group was a priority.

“Tying down your young players, who we see as the future of the club, to long-term contracts was also a huge priority to us.”
